More than ever now, Dallas/Fort Worth area caricature artist Ronnie Smith has become an in-demand event/party guest. Whether booked at corporate parties, wedding receptions, even elderly care facilities, he is flattered to be called the “caricature guy.” Though he got started drawing caricatures rather late in his art career, Ronnie already has 20 years experience under his belt. In fact, Ronnie stays almost as busy with the caricature side of his business as he does with his children’s book publishing business along with the freelance work he does for ad agencies, book publisher’s etc.
What sets Ronnie apart from his peers is his on-the-spot likenesses. The reason this is the case is mostly because he had a career as an illustrator drawing people realistically many years before doing caricatures professionally at parties. Some if it is also inborn talent. His customers are always pleased with his work because they recognize themselves in the drawings even though he’s turned them into more of a cartoony version of themselves. Yes, Ronnie does exaggerate features as a caricature artist should. But never in an insulting way.
